‘This is Printing Office’ broadside by Beatrice Warde.

Printed one colour (blue) on 150gsm Wild Cotton

Description

For our first offering from our letterpress we present This is a Printing Office, the famous broadside by Beartice Warde created in the 1930s. The text was originally penned to show off Monotype Perpetua which was released in 1932.

Warde was a true trailblazer for women entering the heavily male dominated world of printing and typography. She worked at Monotype for some 30 years mostly as the publicity manager. She was an active member of the campaign to raise the standards of commercial printing and was also associated with the new traditionalist typographic movement.

About Our Setting of This is a Printing Office

An elegantly simple setting of the text of the famous broadside. This version has been slightly modified to fit a different typographic arrangement to the original in response to a modified layout. Our version is again set mostly in Perpetua, upper and lower case bold with just a little italic, rather than the all uppercase – or was it Perpetua Titling? – of the original. It has been married with a woodtype of unknown German origin that is Futura-like in design.

It has been printed on the Tiliqua Studio press, a FAG40 proofing press, built in the 1970s.

Edition of 100 (numbered) with seals of authenticity.
